After 66 years TCHS's North Field - Hitchcock Stadium officially closed June 7 for reconstruction and refitting. We await news of the intended reopening date, TC folk.
TCHS played away meets and games at opponents' facilities for its first two years. The south bleachers, turf and track were constructed for the 1958-59 seasons. TC lost all its games in its first year and most the second, an inauspicious start to what became a more legendary heritage.
The complex was named North Field to honor founding principal Arthur North in 1960. In 2015, after a brief kerfuffle between former 60s and 70s footballers who had apparently thought that "North" was a direction, set out to "name the stadium" for former highly successful football coach Bob Hitchcock. Hitchcock had led his teams to a record setting 46 sequential victories, which record was unbroken in California for a decade thereafter. Eventually history and enthusiasm joined hands and North Field at Hitchcock Stadium was renamed in 2016.
Students, alumni, parents and popcord vendors look forward to the reopening. Neighbors on TC Blvd. and Camino Real, perhaps not so much, at least on Friday nights. Best wishes to all; Go Rams!
